The ERCOFTAC (European Research Community on Flow Turbulence and Combustion) Special Interest Groups (SIG) on 'Design Optimisation' organizes the International Conference and Advanced Course "ERCOFTAC Design Optimization: Methods & Applications", in Athens, March 31-April 2, 2004.

The goal of this conference is to foster the spread of design optimisation technology in Europe, acting as platform for the information exchange between research, science and industry. It will hopefully give companies, not currently engaged in computer optimization, an overview over existing concepts.

The Conference Thematic Areas are

• Aeronautics
• Aerodynamics
• Fluid Mechanics
• Turbomachines (Thermal Turbomachines, Hydraulic Machines)
• Structural Dynamics
• Combustion
• Power Generation (Power Generation Plants, Cogeneration, Combined Cycles)

Emphasis should be put to methods capable of solving real industrial problems.

The Advanced Course Program of this Conference will include eight invited lectures which will be given by well-known scientists with great experience in design-optimization methods for industrial applications.

You are invited to submit a paper for the Contributed Papers' Sessions of this International Conference, within the research/application areas listed above. Contributions dealing with real-word, industrial applications, regardless of the optimization tool used, are encouraged.

Authors of contributed papers should submit a (maximum) two-page abstract in PDF format to design04@mail.ntua.gr by January 20, 2004 (NEW, EXTENDED DEADLINE).
